Spelling Bee

Spring always means Spelling Bee here at St. Michael’s. We are proud members of ACCAS and as such, we are always happy to participate in ACCAS’s Annual Spelling Bee that takes place in the month of April.

Over the last few weeks, our students fervently studied their words. Teachers held in-classroom Spelling Bees and went over spelling rules with their students. Everyone was hard at work, building up until our eagerly anticipated SMS Spelling Bee Finals. These were held last Thursday, March 15, 2018 and Friday, March 16, 2018. We began with 9 students in each grade level in order to select the top 3 spellers who go on to compete at the ACCAS Spelling Bee.

This was our most intense SMS Spelling Bee yet. Our students were well-prepared and ready. Consistently, we even had to move on to the next grade level’s word list in order to choose the top three places. It was a really close competition and we feel incredibly proud of the performance of each of our contestants. We are especially proud of the wonderful show of true sportsmanship as they supported each other and assumed their wins and loses with incredible grace.

Friday, April 13, 2018 these students will be joining students from 9 other schools from around the country at the ACCAS Spelling Bee. This is a very special year since it is the 10th Annual Spelling Bee, organized and hosted by Colegio Dominico-Americano as per usual. We know our super spellers will do a wonderful job there as well as they enjoy the camaraderie with students from other school present the event.
